CCS worldwide needs a boost!
CO2-EOR has the most significant commercial potential, but need to be optimised for permanent storage as well!
Project Structure
-
Knowledge Transfer
This activity aims at transferring knowledge between and beyond participating countries (Norway, Netherlands, Turkey, Romania and Greece). We will arrange annual project meetings in each of participating South-Eastern European countries with a workshop open to the interested stakeholders to share the ECO-BASE results with them and discuss effective implementation of the selected CCUS chains.
-
Public Awareness
The recent experiences showed that projects were stopped or cancelled due to “total lack of local support” therefore posing a direct question as to what degree people are familiar with CCUS technologies. This activity is aiming at liaising with existing organisations (like CO2-GeoNet and EERA please provide links) and projects (like ENOS and ALLIGN-CCUS please provide links) in order to organise public events and raise awareness and acceptance of CO2-EOR.
-
Regional EOR and Storage Potential
This activity is aiming at mapping and developing CCUS potential in South East Europe (SEE) onshore (e.g. Greece, Turkey, Romania) and offshore (South-Western Black Sea region offshore Romania and Turkey). The CO2 supply by sources (both energy and industry sectors) and potential demand for storage and CO2-EOR in time needs to be inventoried and mapped. It will support the planning and collaboration of the development at country level and provide insight in the requirements or opportunities for (transnational) transport by pipeline.
-
Creating a Business Case
This activity focuses on the most promising case studies identified and mapped in SEE countries. The business model required to realize the CO2-EOR and storage project will be prepared. The first project will then be studied for its potential to act as a stepping stone for extending the chain into a larger network and other CCUS projects.
